Cobblestone squeaks under foot and water sluices off tiled roofs, the sounds nearly lost among the unbroken patter of rainfall. Vibrant sphagnum mosses peak out ‘neath the tangled rushes flanking the road. Carts filled with ore pass you on the way to distant trading posts, the hardened driver’s greeting you coolly with a tip of their wide-brimmed hats. Despite the chill, the locals welcome you warmly, though that mug of lavender tea might have helped.
